About

Tucson Duo Project, a Tucson-based chamber ensemble featuring flute, bassoon, and piano

Tucson Duo Project began as a duo with the intention of collaborating in many “duo” configurations, expanding what chamber music can look and sound like. When we first performed with pianist Meily Mendez, we immediately knew she belonged in the project—and she is now a permanent part of our ensemble. We’ve kept the name not only as a nod to our origins, but because it sparks curiosity and conversation, which audiences genuinely enjoy.

Our repertoire spans living composers, newly commissioned works, and reimagined classics, performed on piccolo, flute, bassoon, contrabassoon, and piano. From the highest brilliance of piccolo and piano to the deepest resonance of contrabassoon, we focus on storytelling, color, and accessibility—whether we’re in a traditional concert hall or a more informal community space.

This past season, we premiered works by two Tucson composers at both the International Double Reed Society Conference and the National Flute Association Convention, where our performances were met with enthusiastic response. Our programming often highlights underrepresented voices and living composers while remaining engaging and welcoming for broad audiences.
